1. Make your voice heard by those in positions of power.
- Inform your Member of Parliament, local councillors , and city mayors that you believe climate change action is critical.
The Philippines' prosperous future is dependent on their decisions regarding the environment, green spaces, roads, cycling infrastructure, waste and recycling, air quality, and energy efficient homes.
Steps to reduce carbon emissions will eventually have a positive impact on other local issues such as improving air quality and public health, creating jobs, and decreasing inequality.
2. Reduce your consumption of meat and dairy products.
- One of the most effective ways to reduce your environmental impact is to avoid meat and dairy products. A high-fibre, plant-based diet may also be better for your health, making it a win-win situation. Consume fewer or smaller portions of meat, particularly red meat, which has the greatest environmental impact, and reduce or replace dairy products with nondairy alternatives. To help reduce carbon emissions from transportation, preservation, and prolonged refrigeration, choose fresh, seasonal produce grown locally.
3.Reduce your energy consumption and bills.
- Small changes in your home behavior will help you use less energy, reducing your carbon footprint and energy bills. Put on an extra layer and reduce the heat by one or two degrees. When you're not using them, turn off the lights and appliances. Incandescent bulbs should be replaced by LEDs or other low-energy lights. Make simple changes to how you use hot water, such as purchasing a water-saving shower head.
4. Green spaces should be respected and protected.
- Parks and gardens are important green spaces. They absorb CO2 and have been linked to lower levels of air pollution.
They help to regulate temperature by cooling overheated urban areas, reduce flood risk by absorbing surface rainwater, and provide important habitat for a diverse range of insects, animals, birds, and amphibians.
They also have numerous public health benefits, with studies linking green space to lower levels of stress.
5. Reduce your consumption and waste.
- Avoid single-use items and fast fashion, and try not to overbuy.
Look for used or high-quality items that will last a long time.
Make the most of your purchasing power by selecting brands that align with your new green goals.
